Welcome to our Useful Info Accordian: Tours From Caen - Introduction
For Caen-based clients
(Note: If seeking transport solutions only, please refer to our Transport Solutions page, via the ‘Helpful Info’ menu).
Below there is a summary of each of our D-Day Private Tours & Cultural Visits, which are either available with a Caen Train Station or Caen Hotel flexible pick-up / drop-off option.
Please Note: Due to the extra distances involved when starting tours from Caen, and itinerary modifications required, some of the Private Tours & Shuttles listed here or elsewhere on our website are not available directly from Caen with a free pick-up/drop-off service. Caen pick-up / drop-off services on such tours will incur a €70 surcharge and clients will be required to add our Caen extra at checkout.
NB: The Four Beaches tour is available only from Caen and includes a free pick-up / drop-off service.
Bayeux Train Station pick-up service
Perhaps you are considering hiring a car for a day-trip to Bayeux?
Hiring a car for a 8-hr total round-trip (Paris to Normandy) and a half-day 4-hr D-Day Tour can be a rather stressful, not to mention a tiring proposition!
Instead, we always recommend that clients jump on the early morning [Mon – Fri] train from Paris St. Lazare station (departing between 06:00 and 07:00), always ensuring an arrival in Bayeux between 09:00 and 09:30 (depending on the season). All of our tours from Bayeux Station have been specially designed with Paris or Caen day-trippers in mind and our careful planning makes sure you are back at Bayeux Station at 18:15 / 6.15pm latest, in plenty of time to catch the train back to Paris. And we always wait on the morning train!
Tip #1: If you depart Paris St. Lazare Station between 06:00 and 07:00am, you’ll have time to freshen up at the café opposite the train station, use the restroom & grab a quick coffee before doing some Bayeux sightseeing (Tapestry, Cathedral, Battle of Normady Museum), before grabbing lunch-on-the-go, prior to your 13:00 departure for [T5] below.
Option A: In 2023 our [T5] 5-hr American Beaches GROUP D-Day Tour (Pointe-du-hoc, Omaha-Vierville, US Cemetery + Taps + options to Visit either The US Cemetery Visitor Centre or the nearby Overlord Museum), departs central Bayeux, Place de Québec (a mere 12-mins stroll from the tiny Bayeux station) at 13:00 (Mon/Wed/Fri). Station drop-off available at 18:00 (18:15 latest).
Tip #1: If you have already seen the Tapesstry (and if Cathedrals aren’t your ‘thing’), then a visit to the nearby The Battle Of Normandy Museum is a must, prior to lunch-on-the-go, and check in for your tour at 12:50? Don’t miss out on the mini-train (Le p’tit train’) that runs around Bayeux’s medieval streets – a great 35-minute relaxing trip (you can get even off at the aforementioned museum!)
Parking: If you are arriving by car, then there is a free car-park just adjacent to the train station (2nd exit off the roundabout after the station exit), but you must still print out a ticket at the ticket machine to qualify for a free day – so don’t forget to display your ticket in your windscreen!

Which Cemeteries will we visit on a Group Tour ? (From Bayeux)
Cemeteries on our D-Day Tour route(s)
On The American Beaches Tours we always visit Colleville American Cemetery (50 mins).
On specified GROUP Tours and on all PRIVATE Tours covering relevant D-Day sectors (at clients’ behest), a brief stop can also be made enroute at The Bény-sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery or Ryes Commonwealth Cemetery to allow clients to pay their respects. We never visit the three cemeteries in a day and the short 15-min pause is allocated as freetime (see below).
Unlike the vast Colleville Cemetery, these small cemeteries are directly accessible from the roadside. Therefore as soon as we park and exit the vehicle we’re already in the cemetery grounds. Although 15 mins may seem short, it is still sufficient time for strolling around the cemetery grounds, paying respects and signing the visitor’s book.
Note: There will be no guide ‘presentations’ at these smaller cemeteries, and clients wishing more time on-site, with a formal brief presentation, are encouraged to consider one of our chauffeur-service customizable tours.

Airborne Tours - 'On-Demand'
The US and British Airborne landings preceeded the D-Day Infantry Division Landings by 6 hrs. On the Eastern flank, the British 6th Airborne Division, and on the Western flank, the 101st & 82nd US Airborne Divisions (18,000 men in total).
Tour Delta (British Airborne Sector): Is only available via our [C1] or [C2] Transport Solutions service.
Tour Echo (American Airborne Sector): Is only available via our [C1] or [C2] Transport Solutions service.
We strongly urge Airborne enthusiasts to consider booking a full-day US Airborne or full-day British Airborne Tour, using our ‘Transport Solutions‘ service, since it would allow for greater distances and much greater flexibility than is currently available via a semi-fixed tour – E.g. a 10-hr day. There are simply so many variables that it would be impossible to even design an Airborne Tour that would be to every client’s liking. Therefore we will happily customize an Airborne Tour, and work seamlessly with you until you’re satisfied before you book.
