[T5] American Sector D-Day Tour
Summer 2023 (5-hr tour)
Tour Description
[T5] Half-Day 5-hr Group Tour of The Omaha Beach D-Day Sector
*This tour is also suitable as a day-trip from Paris
The Advantages of a Group Tour
→ This tour has been especially designed for Bayeux-based clients seeking a stress-free 5-hr tour of The Omaha Beach Sector, with options otherwise not *available on popular GROUP Tour circuits, namely: The Colleville US Cemetery multimedia Visitor Centre or the famous Overlord Museum, adjacent to the US Cemetery itself.
*As a typical cemetery visit is 50 minutes, on popular full-day GROUP tour circuits – which head out as far as Ste. Mère Eglise and Utah Beach – it’s simply impossible to include these stunning attractions whilst visiting The US Cemetery.
→ This tour has also been designed for day-trippers from Paris (by train), departing Paris St. Lazare Train Station on the morning train [Mon-Fri].
*We will return you to the station at 18:00 (or to Place de Québec shortly after), in plenty of time to catch the train back to Paris.
→ Our small D-Day Group Tour is a great way to discover the landing sites of Normandy alongside like-minded fellow travellers, accompanied by a professional fluent English-speaker Guide.
→ All of the D-Day sites listed – as well as additional brief stops on our planned route – have been carefully chosen to include the major sites in The American ‘Omaha’ D-Day landing sector. At major sites there is ample freetime to walk around and take photos.
→ You will have your own dedicated guide in a small group (8/16 pax) throughout the entire duration of the group tour, who will go out of his / her way to make your day memorable and endeavour to answer your every question.
Travel in style, safely…
Our D-Day Group Tours are conducted in spacious 8/16-seat vehicles with air-conditioning front and rear, a fridge to keep your water chilled and onboard WiFi for all of your devices. Our Group Tour vehicles are also equipped with the latest in vehicle security & passenger safety technology.
Tour Schedule
The tour runs Mon / Wed / Fri throughout the Summer season (From March 2nd to October 31st, 2023).
*Note: During the Winter season (Nov 1st to March 31st) we propose a modified version of this Group Tour (NB: The itinerary below is for Summer season only).
The D-Day Sites you will visit on this tour
The American Sector: La Pointe-du-Hoc, Omaha Beach at Vierville-sur-Mer (saving Private Ryan & National Guard Monument), St. Laurent-sur Mer & Monument ‘Les Braves’, Normandy American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer and exclusive choice of either a 45-minute to the stunning Overlord Museum (right outside the US Cemetery) – prior to visiting the cemetery itself for the flag descent with ‘taps’ at 16:45 OR a 45-min visit to the incredible new (2019) US Cemetery Visitor Centre.
Note: We are the only company in Normandy to offer these options as part of a D-Day GROUP Tour.
Pick-up Times & locations
We depart central BAYEUX, Place de Québec, at 13:00 [Mon – Fri].
*Check-in is always 10-mins prior to departure.
NB: Place de Québec – a 12-min stroll from Bayeux Station – is a designated pick-up point for all major D-Day Tour Companies, therefore kindly ensure you board the correct company’s vehicle! (See ‘Helpful Info’ for pick-up location maps).
*As this tour is suitable as a day-trip from Paris, we thoroughly recommend getting the early morning train from Paris St-Lazare (between 06:00 & 07:00 – getting to Bayeux 2h24 minutes later) and spending the morning visiting medieval Bayeux; its renowned Tapestry and incredible Cathedral, before having lunch-on-the-go, and checking in at 12:50 for your D-Day Tour at Place de Québec (just a stone’s throw from the tourist office).
Reminder: We’ll return clients to the train station at 18:00, in plenty of time to catch the *18:30 train back to Paris, and Place de Québec at 18:10 (*exact train times vary slightly from month to month. Please check train times via our ‘Helpful Info’ menu.).

Pointe-du-Hoc, a 100ft promontory cliff overlooking the English Channel on the coast of Normandy in northern France was heavily fortified with concrete casemates and gun pits and protected by the German 352nd Infantry Division. On D-Day the United States Army Ranger Assault Group under lieutenant colonel James E. Rudder assaulted and captured Pointe du Hoc after scaling the cliffs. Disabling the six 155mm guns there was crucial to the successful completion of the Allied Land Invasion. There was however a cruel surprise in store for Colonel Rudder’s men…

3. (Passing thru) Saint Laurent-sur-Mer – Omaha Beach
Omaha Beach, was the code name for one of the five sectors of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944. Taking Omaha was to be the responsibility of United States Army troops of the First Division nicknamed ‘The Big Red One’. However faced with the 12,020 experienced combat troops of the German 352nd Infantry Division, the battle-hardened 1st Infantry Division had its work cut out. During this memorable visit you’ll find out why nothing here went according to plan on D-Day. Thus we shall discover how ‘Bloody Omaha’ earned its name…

45-minute visit – includes freetime
Public toilets available
4. Normandy Colleville American Cemetery
On June 8, 1944, the U.S. First Army established the temporary cemetery, the first American cemetery on European soil in World War II. After the war, the present-day cemetery was established a short distance to the east of the original site. Come and honour the graves of our fallen Heroes, discover the gold-embossed gravestones of the three Medal of Honour recipients – listen to some stories from their lives – and peruse the wall of the missing upon which are engraved the names of 1557 servicemen never recovered…
45-minute visit – before entering the US cemetery

5. The Overlord Museum
Located a very short distance from “Omaha Beach”, facing the round-a-bout that provides access to the American Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, The Overlord Museum chronicles the period of the Allied landing until the liberation of Paris. The collection was collected by someone who was both a witness to the conflict and involved in the reconstruction of Normandy. Personal items from individual soldiers and armoured fighting vehicles from the six armies in Normandy are presented as a series of reconstructions showing over 35 vehicles, tanks and guns.

6. The US Cemetery Visitor Centre
One-third of the building’s 30,000 square feet is dedicated exhibit space.
Using personal stories of participants and a mix of narrative text, photos, films, interactive displays and artifacts, exhibits portray the competence, courage and sacrifice of Allied forces.
The visitor center is designed to complement and enhance the experience of visiting the cemetery. By relating the global significance and meaning of Operation Overlord, the center pays tribute to the values and sacrifices of the World War II generation. After experiencing the cemetery and the center, visitors will have a greater appreciation of those participating in the Normandy invasion, the achievement of America and her Allies in conducting the greatest amphibious invasion in history and the importance of honoring our war dead.
In honoring the brave Americans who lie far from home, as well as those who survived the battle, the center will inspire future generations to explore, understand and emulate the values for which they gallantly fought.
It also conveys a sense of remembrance and provides visitors an opportunity to reflect upon a pivotal moment in World War II and realize how dramatically it affected the course of world history.
